Two out of three people in sub-Saharan Africa lack access to electricity. East African counties are investing to optimize power supply, increase grid-based power connections, strengthen utilities and other power sector entities, and increase regional power trade.
The aim is to increase the capacity of the industry to strengthen the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity through strategic power planning, competitive procurement, and grid modernization in the region. The East African counties are looking for companies that can implement new technologies, and to improve planning and management of grid extension infrastructure.
The governments are in need for technical and capacity support to utilities to improve their operational performance, enhance cost recovery and quality of service, and reduce technical, commercial, and collection losses.
The East African Governments are focusing on developing renewable power, especially in areas where there is no connectivity to the grid. As a result, renewable power generation is expected to increase in the next few years grow livelihood in the region.
East African countries are focusing on the development of its regional grid network to evacuate power from the planned generation facilities.
